Abstract Submission Guidelines


Author Style Guide

This style guide ensures that all abstract submissions are professionally presented, consistent, and eligible for publication in the HTAi 2026 Annual Meeting materials and (where applicable) in the Supplementary Issue of the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care (IJTAHC).

General Formatting

  • Language: Use American Englsh spelling throughout (e,g., “organization” not “organization”)   
  • Length: Do not exceed word lengths for each submission type (Panels/Workshops: 230 words, Oral/Posters: 320 words)
  • Font & Alignment: Not required during submission (formatting will be applied uniformly in publication)
  • Acronyms: Spell out all acronyms in full on first use, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
  • Spelling: Check for consistent grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Submissions with excessive errors may be rejected.

Titles

  • Length: Titles must not exceed 18 words.
  • Style: Capitalize the first letter of each word (Title Case).
  • Abbreviations: Do not use abbreviations or acronyms in titles
  • Clarity: Ensure the title reflets the content of the abstract clearly.

Numbers & Dates

  • Numbers
    • Spell out numbers from zero to nine (e.g., “three,” not “3”).
    • Use numerals for 10 and above (e.g., “15 patients”).
    • Always use numerals for units of measurement, time, and statistical data (e.g., “5 mg,” “6 months”)
  • Decimals
    • Always include a zero before the decimal point (e.g., “0.5,” not “.5”).
  • Percentages
    • Use the word “percent” in general text (e.g., “20 percent”).
    • Use the % symbol only in brackets or statistical expressions (e.g., “(95% CI: 1.1–2.4)”).
  • Dates
    • Use the full date format: 8 June 2025
    • Do not use slashes (e.g., avoid “8/6/25”).

Currency

  • Use official ISO currency abbreviations (e.g., USD, EUR, GBP, ZAR).
  • Include a conversion into either USD or EUR as well as the local currency value i.e., in parentheses after the initial currency [i.e. (USD___) or (EUR___)]
  • Currency codes: www.xe.com/iso4217.php

Structure & Content

  • No Tables, Figures, or Charts: Abstracts must be text-only.
  • No References: Do not include citations or bibliographies.
  • Results Required: For Oral and Poster presentations, results must be included; proposals without results will not be accepted.
  • No Promotional Content: Abstracts must not promote any commercial product, brand, or service.

Statistical & Technical Language

  • Use statistical terms correctly and consistently. Example: “Confidence Interval (95% CI: 0.33, 2.41)”
  • Spell out: “That is,” “For example,” and “Et cetera” in body text. Abbreviations (i.e., e.g., etc.) are acceptable only in parentheses.

Lists & Bullet Points

  • Avoid bulleted or numbered lists within the abstract body.
  • If listing within a sentence, use Arabic numerals in parentheses: (i), (ii), (iii)

Additional Notes

  • Abstracts are published as submitted. Authors are responsible for reviewing their spelling, grammar, and formatting.
  • All submissions are subject to editorial review
  • By submitting, authors agree to their abstract being pubilshed in the HTAi 2026 materials (program, app, book, etc.)

Supplementary Issue of the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care

  • Accepted abstracts for Oral and Poster presentations may be published in a Supplementary Issue of the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care.
  • Submitters can provide consent for publication through the abstract submission form.
  • Once abstracts are accepted into the official program:
    • An editing process will follow.
    • Any major recommended changes will be communicated to the abstract submitter (primary contact).
