Numbers & Dates
- Numbers
- Spell out numbers from zero to nine (e.g., “three,” not “3”).
- Use numerals for 10 and above (e.g., “15 patients”).
- Always use numerals for units of measurement, time, and statistical data (e.g., “5 mg,” “6 months”)
- Decimals
- Always include a zero before the decimal point (e.g., “0.5,” not “.5”).
- Percentages
- Use the word “percent” in general text (e.g., “20 percent”).
- Use the % symbol only in brackets or statistical expressions (e.g., “(95% CI: 1.1–2.4)”).
- Dates
- Use the full date format: 8 June 2025
- Do not use slashes (e.g., avoid “8/6/25”).
