Did you Know? Fun Facts and Key Tips About Our Host City

Istanbul is reimagining how a city of more than 15 million people moves sustainably. Through major investments in public transit, walking, and cycling infrastructure, the city aims for 70% of all journeys to be made by public transport or on foot by 2040. One standout example is Istanbul’s Metrobus system, which carries more than 800,000 passengers every day and helps reduce daily CO₂ emissions by an estimated 167 tons. The city is also expanding its rail network, adding new cycling lanes, and increasing pedestrian-friendly areas across historic districts.

One of the most sustainable ways to explore Istanbul is by using public transit and ferries to travel around the city— offering both lower-emission travel and incredible views of the Bosphorus.
