WS01 - Building Evidence For The Evaluation Of Digital Health Technologies

Summary: Digital health technologies (DHTs) have the potential to transform healthcare delivery. However, generating robust evidence on the value of DHTs is a challenge. This workshop provides guidelines, tools, and methodologies for conducting health technology assessments (HTAs), and for reporting on economic evaluations of DHTs, aiming to enhance learning on data collection and analysis for informed decision-making.


WS02 - Doing What’s Right: Integrating Ethics Analysis In HTA?

Summary: The relevance of incorporating ethical analysis into HTA is increasingly acknowledged because many health technologies raise ethical, legal and social issues, and because HTA is an ‘evaluative process’ aimed at informing decision-makers about the value of health technology. This workshop offers an introduction to the role of ethics in HTA, as well as interactive discussion of challenging case studies.

 

WS03 - Institutionalization Of HTA In Lower Middle-Income Countries: Progress To Universal Health Coverage, Methodologies, Challenges, Lessons

Summary: Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is essential in guiding priority-setting in health systems, especially as resources are limited and healthcare demands continue to increase. Health systems in low—and middle-income countries strive to achieve universal health coverage and are willing to institutionalize HTA to improve decision-making and optimize outcomes. The challenges these countries experience in this journey are important lessons. Their experiences and progress will be shared and discussed.

 

WS04 - Topic Selection In Health Technology Assessment: How To Make It Transparent, Reproducible And Robust

Summary: The use of systematic procedures that define methods, stages and information requirements for the identification and prioritization of health technologies improves objectivity in the selection for assessment, monitoring or disinvestment. This workshop will focus on understanding concepts related to the selection of topics in health technology assessment and the use of tools designed to support these processes, such as PriTec, a web-based tool that allows network prioritization.

This evidence-based approach helps policymakers and methodologists make informed decisions, optimize resources, and enhance quality of care. 

 

WS06 - HTA 101: Introduction To Health Technology Assessment

Summary: Get a strong start with this popular workshop, updated for every HTAi annual meeting.  Provides an understanding of essential and current HTA concepts, methods, key issues, trends, and selected "hot topics" to help attendees engage fully in the annual meeting.  Good for those who are new to HTA and those wanting a “refresher” course.  Course leader: Clifford Goodman, PhD, a past president HTAi. 


WS07 - Nextgen Participation Of Patient And Citizen Representatives With Active Participation In Coverage Policies

Summary: The official body for Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in Argentina, the National Commission for Health Technology Assessment and Clinical Excellence (CONETEC), has an explicit process for patient and citizen participation. These actors are organized in a Patients' Roundtable and participate in multiple activities within the work process. This workshop will showcase their experience and provide keys to improve their participation.

 

WS08 - Strengthening Capacities Among Speaking Spanish Communities To Challenge Gender Approach As Equity Domain In Health Technology Assessment

Summary: Health Technology Assessment (HTA) current practices may not sufficiently consider the complexities of gender approach as equity domain when assessing and integrating technologies into existing healthcare systems. The workshop intends, first to set the bases for a collaborative network among Spanish speaking countries that fosters ongoing learning, and second agree on the basic elements to develop standardized methodological tools. 


WS09 - Using GRADE In HTA: Unpacking New Developments To Integrating “Real World Evidence” And The Use Of Decision Thresholds

Summary: Join us for an interactive workshop on GRADE’s impact in Health Technology Assessment (HTA). Over 25 years, GRADE has refined evidence certainty rating, with recent advances on real-world data integration and AI. This session includes brief presentations and hands-on activities to set decision thresholds, create an HTA framework, and simulate a decision-making panel. Open to all, from early career to policymakers— apply GRADE’s evolving methods in evidence assessment and decision-making. 

 

WS10 - Advancing HTA With The Global PED Navigator: Workshop On Co-Creation, Monitoring, And Gap Identification In Patient Experience Data

Summary: Patient Experience Data (PED) is becoming a key element of evidence considered by HTA. It is necessary to clarify suitable PED for HTA mandates and how PED could be interpreted within value assessments. The Global PED Navigator is a framework developed by an international multistakeholder consortium. Participants will co-create an HTA-specific iteration of the PED Navigator, enhancing HTA processes by integrating patient input while addressing methodological transparency and data gaps. 

 

WS11 - HB-HTA: From Adaptation At Local Level To Collaboration At Global Level

Summary: Hospital-Based HTA (HB-HTA) assesses health technologies within the specific context of hospitals, requiring close collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders. This workshop introduces HB-HTA, shares best practices from various countries, and explores how HB-HTA can work effectively with managers and HTA agencies. Strategies to foster collaborative initiatives and give visibility to HB-HTA will also be discussed.

 

WS12 - Introduction To Information Retrieval For Health Technology Assessment (HTA)

Summary: 
During this half-day introductory workshop, participants will learn about literature searching for HTA and other evidence syntheses, discuss issues relevant to their own search practices and hear how other HTA organizations organize their services.This workshop, organized by the HTAi Information Retrieval Group (IRG), will be presented by a variety of speakers from a number of countries and continents at various stages of their career.
 

WS13 - Next Generation Early Awareness And Horizon Scanning: The New Toolkit 3.0 From EuroScan/i-HTS On Supporting Value-Based Decision Making

Summary: This workshop introduces EuroScan's new toolkit 3.0, designed to guide stakeholders from early idea development to regulatory and HTA processes, enhancing value-based healthcare decision-making. Participants will engage with structured methodologies and apply them to scenarios in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and public health. Aligned with HTAi and EuroScan’s Early Awareness curriculum, this session empowers participants to drive informed, impactful decisions within healthcare systems.

 

WS14 - Patient And Citizen Involvement: NextGen Participation To Achieve More Transparent, Equitable, And Fair Health Systems

Summary: This workshop, led by the HTAi Patient and Citizen Involvement Interest Group (PCIG) begins with an introduction to key concepts, methods and approaches to patient involvement, including examples of international and regional good practice and tools. This is followed by the choice of three deep dive dialogues: regional and international exchange; patient evidence generation; and equity and fairness. 


WS15 - The Design Of Health Technology Assessment Processes Using Evidence-Informed Deliberative Processes In Low- And Middle-Income Countries

Summary: On their path towards universal health coverage, governments need to make choices in the design of HTA processes which may be challenging in countries that have limited HTA experience. This workshop provides practical guidance and assignments on how to make these choices, informed by the theory of evidence-informed deliberative processes, international best practices and practical examples from several middle-income countries.

 

WS16 - Understanding Practical And Implementable Impact Assessment To Build Knowledge And Trust In NextGen Health Technology Assessment

This workshop will explore AI regulations, HTA frameworks, assessment experiences, training initiatives, and how AI can enhance the assessment process.

 

WS18 - HTAi ESHTA Working Group: Health Technology Assessment Environmental Sustainability Approaches And Multidisciplinary Techniques Across Diverse Healthcare Settings

Summary:  The climate crisis is the largest global health threat of the 21st century. Worldwide, healthcare contributes 4.4% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 15 million tonnes of plastic, annually. Global demand for healthcare requires embracing more sustainable innovation. Cross sectoral decision making bodies are considering how to incorporate environmental sustainability (ES) into Health Technology Assessment (HTA). Our workshop will explore solution-focused methods and practicalities in considering ES within HTA.

This multi-stakeholder workshop addresses current motives, enablers, and barriers for participatory health technology assessment (HTA) in low resource health systems to strengthen evidence-informed decision-making striving for inclusiveness, equity, fairness and transparency. Using examples from the Latin American region, the participants will co-create and design potential implementation pathways for HTA processes that are appropriate for low- and middle-income countries.

 

WS20 - Leveraging Mendelian Randomization To Estimate Lifetime Disease Risk: Economic And Epidemiological Framework For Diversifying Health Technology Assessment Evidence

Summary: Health economic models are key for setting healthcare priorities, especially given the limitations of randomised clinical trials. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death, but prevention is often delayed. The Monash Health-Economics model leverage genetic epidemiology methods including Mendelian Randomisation to assess costs, health, quality of life and identify at-risk individuals early, improving access to preventive-care and saving lives.

WS22 - SUSTAIN-HTA: Supporting Utilization Of Sustainable And Tailored Innovative Methods For HTA – Linking To South America

Summary: SUSTAIN-HTA aims to promote developing and implementing needs-based innovative HTA methods in HTAs in Europe. This workshop will present progress on work to date and explore similar activities in the South American region.

 

WS23 - Workshop On Equity In Health Technology Assessment

Summary: After a brief introduction about different approaches to assess equity in HTA, we will conduce an exercise based on three different requests of new health technologies in a HTA unit. We will provide information on the context working in groups were participants will choose scenarios (high income country, LMIC, etc.) Participants will assess the impact on equity with different approaches, discuss differences and similarities in process and results.
